An example I have of ZPD from my own life would be learning to do different hair styling techniques. As silly as it sounds, my sister use to always do my hair for me in highschool when I went out to dances etc. Then when I was a senior in highschool she helped me do my hair but I could never get it the way I wanted, but eventually through her help could. I reached the ZPD could do my hair completely on my own, and then through internalization I could then transfer the knowledge to my friends and teach them.
I like your real world application of ZPD! I can also kind of relate. For the longest time, when I was younger, I could not understand how to french braid. Finally, wit the help of my mom, I was finally able to figure it out and do it myself. I have also been able to teach many people how to braid as well. I think we often forget how applicable these learning concepts are to every day life, rather than just classroom topics, and I like how you applied them to such a relatable concept!

ReplyDeleteI am Korean and my mom can make the best Korean food ever. Whenever I go out to eat Korean food, it doesn’t taste like my moms. I always wanted to learn how to make Korean food, but my mom never really had the time to teach me. But seeing my mom cook food for our families for forever, I began to learn how to cook Korean food. My freshman year, I started to make Korean food on my own. Similar to you, I reached the ZPD could cook Korean food completely on my own, and then through internalization I taught my Korean friends how to cook Korean food =)
