my own personal experience

For this weeks blog I would like to talk about my own personal experience with learning. When I was a freshman in high school I was having a horrible time in math class. I did not understand any of the material and was failing every test. Then one day someone suggested that I see a math teacher that tutors during lunch. I started to see him everyday at lunch for a few weeks and had him go over concepts from my homework that I did not understand. He did a great job of explaining concepts to me by drawing pictures, graphs, and relating them to real life. The next test I got the second highest grade in the class, and my first A on a math test that year. It felt great, and reassured me that I was not bad at math I was just being taught the wrong way.

  1. I stongely believe that there is nothing in this world that a person cant do if they truely try their hardest. I can somewhat relate this to my experience. I got an interview as a receptionist. I didnt know how to do bookeeping, how to use exel, had hard time communicating with people, etc. However, I tried my hardest to learn and to have confident so that I can get this job.. I really wanted it. My boss told me that she will see how I do for a week and decide. She observed my "behavior" and decide to keep me=) I felt great!

  2. Maia, I had a similar experience in high school as well. Math was always my worst subject beginning in middle school, but in high school I had a great teacher that was very patient and made herself available to students multiple times throughout the day. I decided to take advantage of this and would see her early in the morning a few times a week to go over problems in the homework that I did not understand. We would go over them on the board and I really benefited from this one one one instruction and was able to get an A- in the class.
